Metaphorical sherpas
I must have mountains on my mind! Today, I have set up a Just Giving page, as on June 9th, I will climb Snowden to raise funds for Parenting Mental Health.
Parenting Mental Health is a fabulous charity. Its mission is to improve the experience of parenting a child with any mental health difficulty.
They have made such a massive difference to my son Isaac and me. I am SOOOOOO grateful!
I made a video sharing Isaac’s story and mine. You can watch it by clicking on the illustration below. You may need a hanky. Watching comes with a trigger warning, as suicide is mentioned.
Discovering and joining the PMH Facebook community was a lifeline. I made friends who had traveled the same path.
Sherpas are Tibetan people who live in the high Himalayan mountains. They are acclimatised to the altitude, know the terrain, and are strong and skillful climbers. Their job is to guide and support less experienced climbers to ensure they safely reach the summit.
Members of the PMH community and the resources offered were like sherpas to me. I climbed the mountain of parenting a child with mental ill health with their invaluable help.
As I write today, Isaac is thriving! He has just completed his last piece of work for his first year at University. I could not have imagined such joy when, in 2020, in utter desperation, I joined PMH.
If you have any struggles, I highly recommend you look for a sherpa.
Now to Snowden. OK, it's nowhere near as challenging as Everest, yet it's still quite a task for me, and I am going up this one without a sherpa. Please click through to my Just Giving page and offer sponsorship so PMH can continue to grow and provide wonderful support.
